Locksmiths on the Foreshore
Office towers, hotels and the harbour edge, on ground the sea used to cover.
AAA Locksmiths works the Foreshore out of the City Bowl branch. When you phone 021 425 9966 you are talking to the people who dispatch the van, not to a call centre in another province that sells the job on to whoever is closest.
This is a business district first and everything else a long way second, and the callouts say so. A tenant vacates two floors of a Heerengracht tower and every cylinder has to change before the next lease starts. A hotel on the convention centre side needs a back-of-house door rekeyed at midnight because a set of staff keys did not come back. A logistics office near the harbour gates wants restricted keys so nobody can walk a copy out. A conference finishes at eleven and a storeroom nobody has the key for has to be open by seven.
The branch covers the Foreshore from the station and Civic Centre across to the CTICC, down Lower Long Street and Hertzog Boulevard, out along Table Bay Boulevard to the harbour gates and Culemborg, and back up into the CBD. Tell us the tower and the floor and we will tell you honestly how long we will be, and where the van can stand while we work.

Services we do on the Foreshore
Everything below is work the City Bowl van does on this side of the centre. Follow a link for the detail, or phone the branch and describe what has happened.

What happens when you call from the Foreshore
The branch needs three things to give you a real arrival time: where you are, what has happened, and what you are locked out of.
- 01Give us the building and the floor
Half the difficulty on the Foreshore is getting in, not getting there. Tell us about security, access control and who will meet the technician.
- 02Describe the lock or the door
A suite door, a fire door, a safe or a vehicle. If it is on a master key system, say so — it changes what we bring.
- 03You get the price first
The full amount is agreed on the call. Nobody starts work on a number you have not heard.
- 04The van comes to you
A marked AAA vehicle and a locksmith who can identify himself. The work is tested with you before we leave.
Why a City Bowl number matters on the Foreshore
Ask for Philip. A local line and a name are the two things a fake listing cannot copy.
Search "locksmith near me" from a Foreshore office and some of what comes back is a national number wearing a local name. The call is answered somewhere else, the job is passed on, and the person who turns up at your access-controlled lobby is a stranger to both you and the business you thought you phoned.
021 425 9966 rings the City Bowl branch, and your friendly emergency locksmith in the City Bowl and Foreshore is Philip. The technicians live in and around this part of town. They know what the freeway approaches and Table Bay Boulevard do at five, know which towers will not let a van past the boom without a name on a list, and can tell you where the vehicle actually is rather than guessing at a number that sounds reassuring.
It also means we know what this ground does to hardware. The Foreshore is reclaimed land on the harbour edge, so it takes wind and salt straight off the bay with almost nothing in the way, and the exposed doors on the seaward side of a building age faster than the identical doors on the city side. External gates, service doors and yard hardware are usually the first to stiffen. If a door has started to drag rather than fail outright, say so on the call — that is often a service rather than a replacement.

Questions from the business district
The things building managers and tenants ask the City Bowl branch before they agree to a callout. If yours is not here, ask it on the phone.
How long does it take to reach a Foreshore building?
The branch is close, so the drive is rarely the problem. Getting the technician through the lobby and up to the floor usually is. Tell us on the call who will meet him and whether he needs to be on a list.
Can you work at night so our floor is not disrupted?
Yes, and on the Foreshore most of the bigger jobs are done that way. Cylinder changes, master key installs and door repairs are booked for after hours or over a weekend as a matter of course.
A tenant has vacated. How quickly can a whole floor be rekeyed?
Usually within a day, often overnight. Tell us the number of doors, whether the floor sits on an existing master key chart and whether the new tenant wants restricted keys. Changing cylinders is normally faster and cheaper than changing locks.
Do you do hotel work on the convention centre side?
Yes — room safes, back-of-house doors, staff key control and master key charts. Hotel work is a normal part of what this branch does, including at the hours hotels actually need it.
Are you open at night and over weekends?
The line is answered 24 hours a day, every day of the week, including public holidays. Nights and weekends are a normal part of the work rather than an exception.
Can you open a company vehicle in our basement parkade?
Yes. Give the branch the building, the level and the bay, and have the make, model and year of the vehicle ready. Let building security know a marked AAA vehicle is coming.
Will I know the price before you arrive?
Yes. The full amount is agreed on the phone before the van leaves the branch. If what we find on site changes the job, we stop and tell you before doing anything else.
How do I know the person at our reception is really from AAA?
The vehicle is marked, the technician carries identification, and the branch can tell you on the phone who is on the way — Philip or one of the City Bowl team. If anything does not match, do not sign them in — phone 021 425 9966 and check.
