Residential locksmith services

The locks your family uses every day, working properly.

A residential locksmith deals with everything to do with locks in a home, rather than the businesses and retail sites a commercial locksmith works on. The jobs are often less complicated. That does not make them less important — these are the locks standing between your family and everybody else.

We advise on and fit the right locks for a home: front and rear door locks, window security and interior doors. We rekey existing locks, install new locks and deadbolts for extra safety, and cut duplicate key sets so everyone in the house has their own.

Gate locks deserve a mention on their own. They are out in the weather all year, so they need more maintenance than anything indoors, and they are usually the lock people ignore until it stops turning.

It is also worth thinking about the locks people forget: a weapons cabinet, a safe, even a medicine cabinet. Those are residential locksmith work too, and we would rather fit them properly than have you improvise.

Common questions

If your door or your lock is not covered here, call and describe it.

I have just moved in. Should I change the locks?

You should at least rekey them. You have no way of knowing how many keys are out there from previous owners, tenants, agents or contractors. Rekeying is usually cheaper than replacing the locks and has the same effect.

Can you open my door without damaging it?

That is always the aim, and it depends on the door and the lock. The technician assesses the least damaging method before starting and tells you if a lock will not survive it.

Do you come out at night and over weekends?

Yes. We run a 24-hour mobile service across Cape Town, which is when most home lockouts actually happen.

Can everyone in the house have their own key?

Yes, and it is worth doing. We cut duplicate key sets, and a keyed alike system lets one key open several doors so nobody is carrying a bunch.

My gate lock keeps sticking. Is that normal?

It is common. Gate locks are exposed to sun, rain and wind all year, so they wear far faster than an indoor lock. Servicing one is a small job. Replacing it after it seizes is a bigger one.

Front door, back door, gate or window — and whether anyone is locked out right now.
